The Answer to Discomfort
A trick is to give up the idea of control over what happens, what thoughts arise, or what feelings show up… It’s an impossible task that people fall for.
We never know what’s around the corner, do we? Imagine watching a movie. You sit down after getting your favorite drink, and then you begin watching. Watching always.
What happens 60 minutes in? You can take a guess but still, it’s a guess, right? 61 minutes later, you’re gutted that you didn’t guess right, plus you’re not happy with the outcome.
An argument now occurs about how it should have been different. Wishing for a better way.
As much as the idea is appealing to some, control is simply an illusion that people sell themselves to feel some form of comfort at the moment. Discomfort happens when the perceived idea of control becomes ‘uncontrollable’. Does this resonate?
Can one simply, watch, the ‘movie’ that we call life? Can one find comfort in knowing that one has absolutely no control? Can you see by simply trying to control, one adds more fuel to the fire? The employed strategy to control leads to no control. It’s a Paradox.
I hear often, people try to stop overthinking by thinking
If you come to a fresh understanding of the moment, the strategy will become ineffective and will naturally fall away. You have to clearly see what is being displayed before you can take appropriate action.
Otherwise, you will find the same repeating, ineffective strategies that keep you locked in. All personal services are for a donation or some form of energy exchange.
