What You Need to Know About Forest Fires and It’s Not All Bad News
As we face the current climate crisis we should now be no strangers to the fact that the planet is heating up and at times particularly in hotter climates with less rain fall, which in turn causes droughts and dry forests and woodlands which then in most cases naturally catch fire. Although some people do think its fun and games to start these deliberately without understanding or knowing the consequences or how big these events can grow in terms of destruction.
Although forest fires have always been a part of how nature operates, what we need to recognise is that year on year these are becoming more and more ferocious. Whilst this natural process gets more destructive every year, so too does the destructive impact on nature and native species.Take Australia for example in 2019 which saw its worst fire season in history with the loss of a predicted one billion animals. The amazon rainforest more commonly known as the lungs of the world, a vital part of the earths survival. If you add this together with the issues of deforestation there will literally be nothing left unless we act now to minimise these natural disasters.California also saw many hundreds if not thousands of people see their home burn to the ground along with their livelihoods and possessions which for those whilst not directly affected, will bare the financial cost as will the state as a whole where these disasters occur. Its Not All Bad NewsWhat is important to remember, wildfires have always been a part of nature and they have always happened. What’s wonderful about when these occur naturally is the natural world that burns and gets destroyed has evolved in such a way that it doesn’t die irreversibly. Trees, plants flowers, forests woodland can regrow and flourish once again which in turn returns species levels back to normal over time and can even see the introduction of new species but if too much destruction is caused it can lose this magnificent ability and if we don’t change our fire tackling tactics and identify new ways to assist with reducing the the intensity of these fires, then it is entirely possible that we will lose vast stretches of forest forever and this happening right now within out lifetimes. Nature is awesome right lets get better at protecting it ??????
