Top Tips to Reducing Your Single Use Plastics
Most of us globally should and probably have now recognised the seriousness of plastic use on our environments and the natural world. There are some things most of us use innocently and unknowingly of the plastic contents. An example of this is microbeads in things such as body shower scrubs, toothpaste, etc.
A lot of people don’t actually realise that this is plastic which then gets washed away and broken down into microscopic plastics which are then consumed by sea life and inevitably end up in the human food chain.
How Can We Reduce Our Use of Single-Use Plastics?
1. The first easy and obvious step is to get yourself a collection of bags for life which you can reuse every time you shop. The era of plastic supermarket shopping bags is long over.
2. Pay more attention to your food packaging. Often there is more than one option. Take peppers for example. you can either buy three in one pointless piece of the plastic packet just because it’s three together? or buy three lose individual peppers at the same price or probably less but maybe also a bit more too in some places but it’s better to be sustainable wherever possible. Remember a lot of pricing out there is for the packaging rather than the food itself so the less packaging the cheaper the food should be but also note this isn’t always the case and can vary with different products.
3. If you do need to package something yourself for example pastry products. Always look for a paper bag first as this is a much better choice over plastic but the aim is to have as little packaging as possible.
