What Makes a Successful Business Leader? – Step 1 – Agreement on Success
Here is how to increase your profile to a successful business leader.
Obtain an agreement that people would want to be successful in their jobs. What do your staff want from the job? There is a common issue whereby management influence ceases and their own personal influence and opinions begin. The first step to successful business leadership is the ethic of leadership itself. This ethic can be defined in the following manner:-
Every individual has the right to select the thoughts they hold in mind as it is these thoughts which will influence action. Lets take typical human behaviour:
Attitude is the contributing factor that leads to the consequences of said attitude whether it be positive or negative. If you follow the next summary accordingly it will assist in your leadership process.
It is important not to train to change peoples attitudes. The general idea of training people is to improve performance of the actions which will ultimately achieve the goals that you want to achieve. With this in mind, it must be a focussed idea, one in which will have a clear win back or ROI if you like depending on the context. If there is no clear win then the expense of the training being offered must be called in to question.
Particular attention must be paid attitudes when training. Only those with good attitude can help the employees focus on their behaviour in response will create an enhancement to the performance of their work. The business does not have a given right to counsel its employees on their attitudes. When we can get an insight in to the mind of others, it is a valuable asset that when harnessed correctly can be beneficial.
It is important to remember though though that most if not everyone will have their own personal battles whether ongoing or at some point in their life and a business has no place involving themselves in this unless the employee decides to involve the business such as some compassionate leave.
On the other hand concentrating too much time and energy on attitudes can lead to no avail. There are two reasons for this. The first is any manager is able to walk in to a room with a very good idea in mind of the attitudes of the employees in question. The second is that even though this idea is there its not to say that nothing can be done directly to change these existing attitudes.
So how can a management team tackle these specific attitude issues? The best thing anyone can do is build most successful attitudes within a business is to focus on the main most important job of the managers which is of course to manage and they shouldn’t lose sight of this. They should do this well and conquer this task and encourage the team to come along with them on this journey and gain their support, grow with the challenge and enjoy the success with them.
