Internet of Things- All Things Connected
The Internet of Things or IOT some may even refer to this with its old name of Machine to Machine or M2M is simply a concept by which everything is connected and can speak to other devices online through a single networkThe truth is we use the Internet of Things every day possibly without even realising. A good example of common use of this technology are The Hive, Amazon Alexa, Philips Smart Lighting, Coffee Machines, Ring doorbells and many many more every day electrical appliances. The Internet of Things has been a marvelous development in technology which has enabled us to carry out basic tasks in split seconds which may have taken hours before.Taking the Hive Home Technology as an example, through a simple app installation on our phones we are able to program are entire home heating systems at the press of a button and the days of waiting for a cold house to warm up after a long day out or forgetting to switch on your timers so that you have a warm property upon your return. These days are over and things have become much smarter. The future of IoT is bold. There are projects of smart motorways in development as well as other traffic projects such as smart cars capable of multiple things such as locking or unlocking, car tracking etc. and even starting using apps with biometric security, rather than car keys that we have always known and used. In the UK Vodafone is probably the best and more renowned for their internet of things networks and own most of the enterprise market share though these innovations and in turn gain most of the bigger businesses and events in need of such networks, particularly in the manufacturing and retail industry. The Internet of Things has also enabled us to send notifications automatically when a particular device is not functioning correctly and thus needs an engineer. Another example is it enables manufacturers pull numbers and stats from their products at hundreds if not thousands of different locations around the county. For example if you have a smart coffee machine they can make a digital note of how many coffees its made each month.IoT in general opens up lots of useful statistics which may or may not have been available earlier and worse case if you do already have those numbers is it centralises it all for you and makes life much easier so you can focus on the other things which are perhaps more important particularly in the business world. It can detect security events and analytics particularly with things such as CCTV.
