A Step by Step Guide to Building A Sense of Community Within an Organisation – Part 2
1. A problem has been identified that cannot otherwise be solved alone and required group participation.
2. Create your vision. Try to see what the said issue would like with its solution.
3. Motivate yourself. what is the purpose of this? why are you doing it? what makes this so important to you? By finding the answers to these questions it will help the participating others internal and external to understand your reasons. Concentrate on helping the needs of others with these steps, as this helps to create a better organisation. This can further be used to create a decent leadership plan. Looking into the beliefs will help you to challenge that belief and how you can do better.
4. Open your ears and listen – Who do you need to speak to progress this further? how is your support network looking? Focus on the people who show a legitimate interest in what it is you are doing. This will help to also build trust and your support network so keep these close, talk to them and keep them involved. A disagreement comes from an issue, not the person it’s important to remember this.
5. Pen and paper are your best friend – write things down so that you do not forget them. This is also a good step to giving your organisation a name.
6. Identify your key stakeholders – List the people who have power and engage with them to help you on your journey. work with them to achieve a shared goal.
7. Bring a group of main participants together – There is a need for a small group committee to assist with getting things off the ground. You will need the word of mouth principle to assist you through these participants. Select people with different backgrounds to yourself and this will maximise innovative new ideas.
8. Have a mission statement – This is probably one of the most important steps. set yourself realistic and achievable goals have a sense of direction. This will help clarify your organisations mission and what it wants to achieve. This can always be updated as things progress and develop. Keep it short and sweet so that people will remember this.
9. Structure – It is really important that you find and develop a successful structure. Make sure these frameworks are future proof and time worthy. This may consist of discussing the rules, meeting locations, times, legal status, funding, membership etc. Make sure all key participants are aware of this structure and clear with any rule setting. People should be held accountable. If this isn’t monitored then it can leave the organisation inaccessible.
